Abstract
Armored cable sheath is coded for easy visual identification by applying patterns, e.g., colored patterns, along the length of the cable.
Claims30
A set of armored cables, each armored cable in said set comprising
- a conductive tubular structure having an internal passage, an outer surface, a first end, and a second end, the internal passage being sized and configured to enclose one or more conductors, said tubular structure being made of a material having a first visual appearance, and
- a pattern of visible indicia, of different visual appearance from said first visual appearance, applied on said outer surface, said pattern being repeated along the length of said armored cable,
- each armored cable in said set including a said pattern of visible indicia of different visual appearance than all other armored cables in said set.
A set of armored cables, each armored cable in said set comprising
- a conductive tubular structure having an internal passage, an outer surface, a first end, and a second end, the internal passage being sized and configured to enclose one or more conductors, said tubular structure comprising crowns and valleys of a helically wound strip and being made of a material having a first visual appearance, and
- a pattern of visible indicia, of different visual appearance from said first visual appearance, applied on said outer surface, said pattern being repeated along the length of said armored cable and leaving exposed a substantial portion of said outer surface of said crowns,
- each armored cable in said set including a said pattern of visible indicia of different visual appearance than all other armored cables in said set.
A method of making an armored cable sheath comprising
- forming a metal strip into an interlocking helical configuration to produce a conductive tubular structure having an internal passage, an outer surface, a first end, and a second end, said internal passage sized and configured to enclose one or more conductors, and
- selectively applying visible indicia in a pattern on said outer surface.
A method of making an armored cable sheath comprising
- forming a metal strip into an interlocking helical configuration to produce a conductive tubular structure comprising crowns and valleys of a helically wound strip and having an internal passage, an outer surface, a first end, and a second end, said internal passage sized and configured to enclose one or more conductors, and
- selectively applying visible indicia in a pattern on said outer surface, said pattern being repeated at regular intervals along the length of the sheath and leaving exposed a substantial portion of said outer surface of said crowns,
- said pattern comprising a pattern applied along the length of said strip.
An armored cable comprising
- a helically wound metal sheath forming a tubular structure with alternating crowns and valleys along the length of the sheath,
- a pattern of colored markings repeated along the length of the sheath, the pattern leaving exposed portions of the metal sheath on said crowns, and
- conductors within the metal sheath.
An armored cable comprising
- a helically wound metal sheath forming a tubular structure with alternating crowns and valleys along the length of the sheath, said tubular structure comprising crowns and valleys of a helically wound strip, and
- a pattern Of colored markings repeated at regular intervals along the length of the sheath, the pattern leaving exposed portions of the metal sheath on said crowns and leaving open a substantial portion of said outer surface of said crowns,
- wherein said pattern comprises a pattern applied along the length of said strip.
