Abstract
A continuous liquid chromatographic column containing a separation medium in the form of a macroporous polymer plug is disclosed. The column possesses numerous advantages over conventional columns which are packed with beads or particles. The plug contains both small pores less than 200 nm in diameter and large pores greater than 600 nm in diameter.
Claims24
A process for producing a continuous liquid chromatographic column comprising the steps of (i) adding a deaerated polymerization mixture containing a porogen to a tube closed at both ends;
- (ii) polymerizing the mixture to form a macroporous organic polymer plug, and (iii) washing the macroporous polymer plug to remove the porogen and to leave a plug which contains small pores having diameters less than about 200 nm and large pores having diameters greater than about 600 nm.
