Abstract
The present invention relates to a process for the conversion of poly(ethylene terephthalate) waste to poly(alkylene terephthalate) useful as engineering thermoplastic, which comprises reacting Poly(ethylene terephthalate) powder with a diol containing 3-12 carbon atoms in the liquid phase in the presence of a catalyst at a temperature in the range 180.degree.-270.degree. C. under reduced pressure and inert atmosphere.
Claims9
A process for the conversion of poly(ethylene terephthalate) waste to poly(alkylene terephthalate) useful as an engineering thermoplastic, which consists essentially of reacting poly(ethylene terephthalate) waste powder with 1,4-butane diol in the liquid phase in the presence of a catalyst selected from group consisting of antimony and titanium compounds at a temperature in the range 180.degree.-270.degree. C. under reduced pressure and an inert atmosphere.
