Abstract
An immunogenic HIV retrovirus-like particle which is non-infectious and non-replicating and which is useful as a candidate vaccine component against HIV infection, is produced by genetic engineering. A DNA molecule comprising the HIV genome devoid of long terminal repeats is incorporated into an expression vector, which is introduced into mammalian cells for expression of the HIV retrovirus-like particle.
Claims13
A genetically-engineered, non-infectious, non-replicating and immunogenic HIV retrovirus-like particle, produced by:
- incorporating into an expression vector a DNA molecule comprising the HIV genome devoid of long terminal repeats,
- introducing the expression vector into mammalian cells, and
- expressing said DNA molecule in said mammalian cells to produce said HIV retrovirus-like particle.
A method for obtaining a non-infectious, non-replicating, immunogenio HIV retrovirus-like particle by genetic engineering, which comprises:
- incorporating into an expression vector a DNA molecule comprising the HIV genome devoid of long terminal repeats,
- introducing the expression vector into mammalian cells, and
- expressing said DNA molecule in said mammalian cells to produce HIV retrovirus-like particles.
