Abstract
A process is disclosed for coating a ceramic composite in which the composite has a pattern of grooves cut into the surface followed by coating to increase adhesion and inhibit cracking of the coating.
Claims15
Process for coating a ceramic composite comprising:
- cutting into the composite surface to be coated a pattern of grooves, with the pattern being effective to increase the adhesion of the coating to the substrate and to expose a surface in the composite that more closely matches the thermal expansion properties of a coating composition;
- and
- coating the cut substrate surface with the coating composition.
