Control apparatus and method for coffee grinder and brewer

A method for operating a coffee grinder and coffee brewer, comprising the steps of:

• sensing grinding of one of a plurality of grind capacities in the coffee grinder;
• transmitting a signal indicative of said one of said plurality of grind capacities through a communication link to the coffee brewer;
• and
• inhibiting all brew capacities in the coffee brewer except a brew capacity corresponding to said one of said plurality of grind capacities until said brew capacity is selected.

A method for control of a coffee grinder having a plurality of grinding capacities and a coffee brewer having a plurality of brewing capacities, comprising:

• sensing occurrence of a grind event with a grind sensor in the coffee grinder;
• sensing which of the plurality of grinding capacities has occurred in the grind event, the grind event being grinding of a predetermined quantity of coffee corresponding to a selected one of the plurality of grinding capacities;
• generating a grind signal with a grind control in the coffee grinder corresponding to the selected one of the plurality of grinding capacities that occurred in the grind event sensed by said grind sensor means;
• connecting a communication link to said grind control means to carry said grind signal;
• and
• inhibiting all of said plurality of brewing capacities but one brewing capacity corresponding to said grind event with a brew control in said coffee brewer through said communication link until said one brewing capacity is selected in the coffee brewer.
