Abstract
A liquid medicament bag has at least one opening and a valve associated with the opening. The valve is normally closed to prevent fluid communication through the opening. A needleless connector can be engaged with the valve to open the valve and thereby establish a passageway for fluid communication through the opening. The valve can be held within a rigid valve assembly, familiarly referred to as a "boat" assembly, which is positioned in the bottom seam of the bag.
Claims33
A device for holding liquid medicament, comprising:
- a bag for holding the liquid medicament, the bag having an opening formed therein;
- a valve operably engaged with the opening and having a first position, wherein a passageway for fluid communication is established through the opening, and a second position, wherein fluid communication through the opening is not permitted, the valve including a male valve element having a skirt and an engagement surface extending radially outwardly from the skirt for contacting a needleless connector to cause the valve element to reciprocate relative to the bag;
- wherein the valve is biased to the second position and is engageable with the needleless connector to establish the first position of the valve.
A device comprising:
- a flexible plastic bag having an opening therein;
- and
- a rigid valve assembly having a plurality of fluid ports, each port having a valve disposed therein for selectively blocking fluid flow through the port, at least one valve including a male valve element having a skirt and an engagement surface extending radially outwardly from the skirt for contacting a needleless or spikeless IV component to cause the valve element to reciprocate relative to the bag.
A liquid medicament bag having an opening and a valve for selectively blocking the opening, the valve comprising:
- a hollow body defining a fluid passageway therethrough;
- a resilient valve disc positioned in the fluid passageway and being biased into a closed configuration, wherein the disc blocks fluid flow through the fluid passageway, the disc being movable to an open configuration, wherein fluid flow is permitted through the fluid passageway;
- a male valve element having a skirt and an engagement surface extending radially outwardly from the skirt for contacting a needleless connector to cause the valve element to reciprocate within the fluid passageway to urge against the disc,
- wherein the disc is moved to its open configuration by the valve element when the valve is engaged with a needleless connector.
A device comprising:
- a flexible plastic bag having an opening therein;
- and
- a reflex valve operably engaged with the opening to block fluid flow through the opening, the reflex valve including a male valve element having a skirt and an engagement surface extending radially outwardly from the skirt for contacting a needleless or spikeless connector to cause the valve element to reciprocate relative to the bag.
A valve, comprising:
- a hollow body defining a fluid passageway therethrough;
- a resilient valve disc positioned in the fluid passageway and biased to a closed configuration, wherein the disc blocks fluid flow through the fluid passageway, the disc being movable to an open configuration, wherein fluid flow is permitted through the fluid passageway;
- and
- a male valve element formed with a skirt and an engagement surface extending radially outwardly from the skirt for contacting a needleless connector, wherein the needleless connector can be advanced against the valve element to urge the valve element against the valve disc and thereby move the valve disc to the open configuration.
