Abstract
Optical waveguide devices for interconnecting optical fibers and use in integrated optical systems. The invention includes a substantially dry method for making the devices and intermediate elements.
Claims31
An optical waveguide device for use in integrated optical systems comprising:
- a photohardended film having first and second surfaces, the film having a first region and remaining regions, the first region adapted to transmit light as an optical waveguide;
- a first photohardened layer having first and second surfaces, the first layer first surface laminated on the film first surface covering a first side of the waveguide;
- and
- a second photohardened layer having first and second surfaces, the second layer first surface laminated on the film second surface covering a second side of the waveguide,
- wherein the waveguide is effectively transparent in the spectral region of 0.6 to 16 micrometers.
2 more elements
An optical waveguide element for use in forming optical devices comprising:
- a film having first and second surfaces, the film having a first photohardened region adapted to transmit light as an optical waveguide and substantially dry photohardenable remaining regions;
- and
- a support removably adhered to the first surface.
An optical waveguide element for use in forming optical waveguide devices comprising:
- a photohardened film having first and second substantially flat surfaces, the film having a first region and remaining regions, the first region adapted to transmit light as an optical waveguide;
- and
- a support removably adhered to the first surface.
