Abstract
Novel 9-amino-7-(substituted amino)-6-demethyl-6-deoxytetracyclines having activity against a wide spectrum of organisms including organisms which are resistant to tetracyclines are disclosed. Also disclosed are intermediates and methods for making the novel compounds of the present invention.
Claims1
A method of producing a compound of the formula:
- ##STR16## wherein R.dbd.NR.sub.1 R.sub.2 ;
- R.sub.1 is selected from hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, 1-methylethyl, n-butyl, or 1-methylpropyl and R.sub.2 is selected from methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, 1-methylethyl, n-butyl, 1-methylpropyl, 2-methylpropyl, or 1,1-dimethylethyl;
- such that when R.sub.1 =hydrogen, R.sub.2 =methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, 1-methylethyl, n-butyl, 1-methylpropyl, 2-methylpropyl or 1,1-dimethylethyl;
- and when R.sub.1 =methyl or ethyl, R.sub.2 =methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, 1-methylethyl, n-butyl, 1-methylpropyl or 2-methylpropyl;
- and when R.sub.1 =n-propyl, R.sub.2 =n-propyl, 1-methylethyl, n-butyl, 1-methylpropyl or 2-methylpropyl;
- and when R.sub.1 =1-methylethyl, R.sub.2 =n-butyl, 1-methylpropyl or 2-methylpropyl;
- and when R.sub.1 =n-butyl, R.sub.2 =n-butyl, 1-methylpropyl or 2-methylpropyl;
- and when R.sub.1 =1-methylethyl, R.sub.2 =2-methylpropyl;
- which comprises reacting a compound of the formula:
- ##STR17## wherein R is as defined hereinabove, with a reducing agent, said reducing agent comprising hydrogen in a 2-methoxyethanol solvent in the presence of a homogeneous hydrogenation catalyst selected from tris-(triphenylphosphine) rhodium (I) chloride.
