Abstract

Compounds of the formula: ##STR1## are useful for treatment of cataracts in mammals.

Dependent claims

A method for delaying the onset of cataract in mammals comprising administering to said mammal a composition having a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of the formula:

##STR4## R is a hydrogen, or hydroxyphenyl, or methyl or .dbd.O and Z is --OH or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, OR.sub.3 where R.sub.3 is an aliphatic group of 1-10 carbons, N(R.sub.1).sub.2 when R.sub.1 is hydrogen or alkyl of 1-5 carbon atoms.
