Abstract
A method and nickel-containing catalyst are disposed for preparing synthesis gas by the reforming of a hydrocarbyl compound using an oxygen-containing compound.
Claims12
A catalyst suitable for the reforming of a hydrocarbyl compound to prepare synthesis gas comprising the composition formed by heat treating to a temperature of at least 700.degree. C. under reforming conditions, a catalyst precursor composition comprising at least one hydrotalcite-like compound having the formula:
- [M.sup.2+.sub.(1-x) M.sub.x.sup.3+ (OH).sub.2 ].sup.x+ (A.sub.x/n.sup.n-).multidot.mH.sub.2 O,
- where M.sup.2+ is a metal ion having a valence of 2+ and is at least Ni.sup.2+ ;
- M.sup.3+ is a metal ion having a valence of 3+;
- x is a number of about 0.10 to about 0.50;
- A.sup.n- is an anion having a negative charge of n;
- and m is 0 or a positive number, and wherein the catalyst contains metal particles of about 1 to about 1000 nanometers in size and containing at least nickel in the zero oxidation state.
