Abstract
The invention is a continuous, substrate-free fiber comprising amorphous boron having a tensile strength ranging from about 750 kpsi to over 1000 kpsi, and a diameter which may be varied with the number or diffraction limited laser focal spot size to provide fiber diameter as small as 0.01 micron.
Claims10
A substrate-free fiber comprising amorphous boron having a tensile strength greater than about 750 kpsi and up to about 1,100 kpsi.
A substrate-free fiber comprising amorphous boron, said fiber having a tensile strength greater than 750 kpsi and up to about 1,100 kpsi and having a diameter from about 7 microns to about 100 microns.
A substrate-free fiber comprising amorphous boron, said fiber formed by laser induced conversion of a vapor into a fiber having a minimum diameter determined by the diffraction limited laser focal spot size by the wavelength of a laser light, said fiber having a tensile strength greater than about 750 kpsi and up to about 1,100 kpsi.
