Abstract
Copolymers of tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) and hexafluoropropylene (HFP) having high HFP content and end-of-melting temperature, T.sub.m (end), as low as 200.degree. C. are disclosed. Exceptional performance as a processing aid in polyolefins results from having T.sub.m (end) of the TFE/HFP copolymer close to the processing temperature of the polyolefin. These TFE/HFP copolymers are soluble in fluorinated cyclic solvents. Copolymer/solvent systems copolymer at significant concentrations in selected solvents are fluid and stable at room temperature.
Claims15
A solution of partially crystalline copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) and hexafluoropropylene (HFP) having a hexafluoropropylene index (HFPI) in the range 6.4 to about 9 in a highly fluorinated cycloalkane or aromatic solvent, having a copolymer concentration up to about 30 wt %.
A fluid, stable copolymer/solvent system wherein the copolymer is partially crystalline copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) and hexafluoropropylene (HFP) having a hexafluoropropylene index (HFPI) in the range 6.4 to about 9, the solvent is a highly-fluorinated cycloalkane or aromatic compound, and the copolymer concentration is from about 0.1 to about 10 wt %.
A suspension of partially crystalline copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) and hexafluoropropylene (HFP) having a hexafluoropropylene index (HFPI) in the range 6.4 to about 9 in a highly-fluorinated cycloalkane or aromatic solvent, having a copolymer concentration of at least 0.1 wt %.
A gel comprising a highly-fluorinated cycloalkane or aromatic solvent and partially crystalline copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) and hexafluoropropylene (HFP) having a hexafluoropropylene index (HFPI) in the range 6.4 to about 9.
