A method of treating osteoporosis comprising the administration of an effective amount of 1.alpha.,24(R)-dihydroxy-22(E)-dehydro-vitamin D.sub.3.

A method of treating osteoporosis by stimulating intestinal calcium transport activity without increasing bone calcium mobilization activity comprising administering to a patient an effective amount of 1.alpha.,24(R)-dihydroxy-22(E)-dehydro-vitamin D.sub.3, said effective amount comprising from about 0.5 micrograms to about 8 micrograms per day.
