Abstract
Certain poly(lactic acid) and poly(glycolic acid) polymers or copolymers, and certain carbonates, lactones, lactates, lactylates, lactides, glycolates, glycolylates, and glycolides have been found to stabilize thermal-dye-bleach constructions containing a dye in association with a thermally-generated-bleaching agent. Preferably, the thermally-generated-bleaching agent is a thermal-carbanion-generating agent such as a quaternary ammonium salt of a phenylsulfonylacetic acid or a thermal-nucleophile-generating agent such as an ammonium salt of a phenylsulfonylacetic acid. These materials have been found to be particularly effective when used in acutance and antihalation systems for photothermographic and photographic elements.
Claims28
A thermal-dye-bleach layer comprising:
- (a) a thermal bleachable dye in association with a thermally-generated-bleaching agent;
- and
- (b) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of:
- ##STR30## wherein:
- R.sup.s is selected from alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl and acyl groups of up to 20 carbon atoms, aryl groups of up to 14 carbon atoms, and hydrogen;
- R.sup.t is selected from alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, and alkenyl groups of up to 20 carbon atoms, and aryl groups of up to 14 carbon atoms;
- R.sup.u to R.sup.v are each independently selected from alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, and alkenyl groups of up to 20 carbon atoms, and aryl groups of up to 14 carbon atoms, with the proviso that only one of R.sup.u and R.sup.v may be alkyl;
- R.sup.y to R.sup.z are each independently selected from alkyl, aralkyl, and alkenyl groups of up to 20 carbon atoms, aryl groups of up to 14 carbon atoms, and hydrogen;
- and
- j is an integer from 0 to 2,000.
A photothermographic or photographic element comprising:
- a support bearing an electromagnetic-radiation-sensitive a photothermographic or photographic silver halide material;
- and
- an antihalation layer or acutance agent which comprises:
- (a) a thermal bleachable dye in association with a thermally-generated-bleaching agent, and
- (b) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of:
- ##STR50## wherein:
- R.sup.s is selected from alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl and acyl groups of up to 20 carbon atoms, aryl groups of up to 14 carbon atoms, and hydrogen;
- R.sup.t is selected from alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, and alkenyl groups of up to 20 carbon atoms, and aryl groups of up to 14 carbon atoms;
- R.sup.u to R.sup.v are each independently selected from alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, and alkenyl groups of up to 20 carbon atoms, and aryl groups of up to 14 carbon atoms, with the proviso that only one of R.sup.u and R.sup.v may be alkyl;
- R.sup.y to R.sup.z are each independently selected from alkyl, aralkyl, and alkenyl groups of up to 20 carbon atoms, aryl groups of up to 14 carbon atoms, and hydrogen;
- and
- j is an integer from 0 to 2.000.
