Abstract
A ferroelectric liquid crystal electro-optical device comprises a pair of plates having driving electrodes and ferroelectric liquid crystal material having a negative dielectric anisotropy. The ferroelectric liquid crystal material comprises a ferroelectric liquid crystal composition 10 to 80% by weight of a compound of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a straight-chain alkyl or alkoxy group, or an alkyl, alkoxy, alkoxyalkyl or acyloxy group each having an asymmetric carbon atom, and R.sub.2 represents a straight-chain alkyl group having an assymmetric carbon.
Claims9
A ferroelectric liquid crystal electro-optical device comprising:
- a pair of plates having driving electrodes, the inner surface of at least one of the plates having an alignment membrane disposed thereon, the alignment membrane being selected from polyamide and polyfumarate alkyl ester and having an uniaxial alignment characteristic;
- and
- ferroelectric liquid crystal material sandwiched between the plates, the ferroelectric liquid crystal material having a negative dielectric liquid crystal material anisotropy and comprising a ferroelectric liquid crystal composition 10 to 80% by weight of a compound of the general formula:
- ##STR99## wherein R.sub.1 represents ##STR100## and R.sub.2 represents a straight-chain alkyl group of C.sub.6 -C.sub.8, and wherein * indicates an asymmetric carbon atom.
