Abstract
A 4-fluorobiphenyl derivative of formula (I): ##STR1## wherein A is a .omega.-oxycarbonyldihydroxybutyl group of formula (II): ##STR2## wherein R.sup.2 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkaline metal or an alkaline earth metal; a tetrahydropyranyl group of formula (III): ##STR3## or a .omega.-oxycarbonyl-3-oxobutyl group of formula (IV): ##STR4## wherein R.sup.3 is an alkyl group; R.sup.1 is an alkyl group. This 4-fluorobiphenyl derivative is useful as an effective component for a cholesterol or lipid lowering agent.
Claims18
A 4-fluorobiphenyl derivative of formula (I):
- ##STR35## wherein A is a .omega.-oxycarbonyldihydroxybutyl group of formula (II):
- ##STR36## wherein R.sup.2 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, which may have a substituent, an alkaline metal or an alkaline earth metal;
- a tetrahydropyranyl group of formula (III):
- ##STR37## or a .omega.-oxycarbonyl-3-oxobutyl group of formula (IV):
- ##STR38## wherein R.sup.3 is an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, which may have a substituent;
- R.sup.1 is an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, which may have a substituent selected from the group consisting of a heteroaromatic group, an alkoxyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and a hydroxyl group.
A 4-fluorobiphenyl derivative of formula (IA):
- ##STR40## wherein R.sup.1 is an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, which may have a substituent selected from the group consisting of a heteroaromatic group, an alkoxyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and a hydroxyl group;
- and R.sup.2 is an alkaline metal.
A cholesterol or lipid lowering agent comprising a 4-fluorobiphenyl derivative of formula (IB) as an effective component:
- ##STR41## wherein A' is a .omega.-oxycarbonyldihydroxybutyl group of formula (II):
- ##STR42## wherein R.sup.2 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, which may have a substitutent, an alkaline metal or an alkaline earth metal;
- a tetrahydropyranyl group of formula (III):
- ##STR43## R.sup.1 is an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, which may have a substituent selected from the group consisting of a heteroaromatic group, an alkoxyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and a hydroxyl group.
A cholesterol or lipid lowering agent comprising a 4-fluorobiphenyl derivative of formula (IA) as an effective component:
- ##STR45## wherein R.sup.1 is an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, which may have a substituent selected from the group consisting of a heteroaromatic group, an alkoxyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and a hydroxyl group;
- and R.sup.2 is an alkaline metal.
