A method of treating osteoporosis by stimulating intestinal calcium transport activity with attendant bone formation without significantly increasing bone calcium mobilization activity comprising administering to a patient an effective amount of 1.alpha.,25-dihydroxy-22(E)-dehydro-vitamin D.sub.3.
