Abstract
Certain amidoamines, the use of same for disinfecting and cleaning contact lenses and preserving ophthalmic products, and associated ophthalmic compositions are described.
Claims18
A preserved pharmaceutical composition comprising an ophthalmic composition and an amount of a compound of the following formula effective to preserve said ophthalmic composition from microbial contamination:
- ##STR2## wherein:
- R.sup.1 is C.sub.6 -C.sub.18 saturated or unsaturated alkyl, alkylaryl, or alkoxyaryl;
- n is 2 to 16;
- and
- R.sup.2 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 saturated or unsaturated alkyl or alkanol, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
An ophthalmic composition comprising an amount of a compound of the following formula effective to disinfect contact lenses:
- ##STR3## wherein:
- R.sup.1 is C.sub.6 -C.sub.18 saturated or unsaturated alkyl, alkylaryl, or alkoxyaryl;
- n is 2 to 16;
- and
- R.sup.2 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 saturated or unsaturated alkyl or alkanol, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof;
- and a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle therefor.
A method of disinfecting a contact lens which comprises immersing the lens in an antimicrobial composition for a time sufficient to disinfect the lens, said composition comprising an amount of a compound of the following formula effective to disinfect the lens:
- ##STR4## wherein:
- R.sup.1 is C.sub.6 -C.sub.18 saturated or unsaturated alkyl, alkylaryl, or alkoxyaryl;
- n is 2 to 16;
- and
- R.sup.2 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 saturated or unsaturated alkyl or alkanol, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof;
- and a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle therefor.
A method of preserving an ophthalmic composition which comprises including in the composition an amount of a compound of the following formula effective to preserve the composition from microbial contamination:
- ##STR5## wherein:
- R.sup.1 is C.sub.6 -C.sub.18 saturated or unsaturated alkyl, alkylaryl, or alkoxyaryl;
- n is 2 to 16;
- and
- R.sup.2 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 saturated or unsaturated alkyl or alkanol, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
A method of cleaning a contact lens which comprises contacting the surfaces of the lens with a composition comprising an amount of a compound of the following formula effective to clean the lens:
- ##STR6## wherein:
- R.sup.1 is C.sub.6 -C.sub.18 saturated or unsaturated alkyl, alkylaryl, or alkoxyaryl;
- n is 2 to 16;
- and
- R.sup.2 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 saturated or unsaturated alkyl or alkanol, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof;
- and a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle thereof.
