Abstract
Polymeric phosphonium salts useful for enhancing the chemiluminescence produced by 1,2-dioxetanes are described. The polymers are preferably water soluble and used in immunoassays and nucleic acid assays with enzyme triggerable 1,2-dioxetanes.
Claims31
A method for providing enhanced chemiluminescence from a stable 1,2-dioxetane which comprises:
- (a) providing in a solution or on a surface where the light is to be produced a stable 1,2-dioxetane and a polymeric phosphonium salt with polyvinyLinktriAyl-phosphonium groups wherein Link is a linking group between the polymer and the phosphonium group containing 1 to 20 carbon atoms and A is selected from the group consisting of alkyl containing 1 to 20 carbon atoms and from alkyl and aralkyl groups each containing 1 to 20 carbon atoms;
- and
- (b) triggering the 1,2-dioxetane with an activating agent to provide the enhanced chemiluminescence.
In a method for enhancing chemiluminescence produced by activating a 1,2-dioxetane the improvement which comprises generating the chemiluminescence in the presence of a polymeric phosphonium salt with polyvinyLinktriAylphosphonium groups wherein Link is a linking group between the polymer and the phosphonium group containing 1 to 20 carbon atoms and A is selected from the group consisting of alkyl containing 1 to 20 carbon atoms and from alkyl and aralkyl groups each containing 1 to 20 carbon atoms.
