The present invention provides novel fatty acid esters of alkoxylated isethionic acid and compositions comprising these compounds.

A compound or mixture of compounds having the formula ##STR6## wherein R is a straight chain alkyl group having 8 to 18 carbons, m is an integer from 2 to 4, R' and R" are hydrogen or an alkyl group having 1-4 carbons, and M.sup.+ is a monovalent cation.
