Abstract
Novel substituted aromatic polyetherketone gas separation membranes and the process of using such membranes to separate one or more gases from a gaseous mixture is disclosed. The polyetherketones are formed from aromatic alcohols of the formula ##STR1## where Z is independently alkyl groups having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, most preferably a tertiary butyl group, n is an integer from 1 to 4, preferably 1.
Claims7
A gas separation membrane comprised from:
- (a) at least one unit derived from the following formula:
- ##STR7## or mixtures thereof;
- where Z is independently, alkyl groups having 1 to 10 carbon atoms or aromatic groups having 6 to 12 carbon atoms;
- Y is independently alkyl groups having 2 to 10 carbon atoms;
- n is independently an integer from 1 to 4 inclusive;
- m is 0 or 1;
- and R' is a carbon-carbon single bond, ##STR8## or mixtures thereof;
- and (b) at least one unit derived from an aromatic dihalogenated ketone moiety.
