Abstract
Aqueous microemulsions are described which are polymerized to produce a latex containing particles of organic polymer having recurring pendant perfluorinated organic side chains which have an average particle size of between 0.01 and 0.5 micrometers. The latex can be used to coat the surface of substrate structures, or to coat the pore walls of porous substrate structures.
Claims9
A coated article comprising a substrate containing a coating of an aqueous latex in which particles of organic polymer having recurring pendant perfluorinated organic side chains are present and in which the particles have an average size of between 0.01 and 0.5 micrometers.
A coated article comprising a porous substrate in which at least a portion of the interior of the substrate is coated with an aqueous latex in which particles of organic polymer having recurring pendant perfluorinated organic side chains are present and in which the particles have an average size of between 0.01 and 0.5 micrometers.
A coated article comprising a microporous film of polytetrafluoroethylene in which the microporous structure is formed by nodes interconnected with fibrils, in which at least a portion of the nodes and fibrils are coated with an aqueous latex in which particles of organic polymer having recurring pendant perfluorinated organic side chains are present and in which the particles have an average size of between 0.01 and 0.5 micrometers.
