Abstract
Collagen, particularly atelopeptide collagen, exhibits improved handling characteristics when chemically conjugated and/or crosslinked with a synthetic hydrophilic polymer.
Claims4
A method for augmenting tissue in a mammal, which comprises:
- providing an aqueous collagen mixture having a concentration of about 10 to about 100 mg/mL collagen;
- providing an aqueous solution of synthetic hydrophilic polymer having a reactive group capable of forming a covalent bond in situ with an available lysine side chain present in collagen;
- mixing said collagen mixture and said polymer solution to form a reaction mixture having a polymer concentration of about 0.1 to about 10% polymer having reactive groups;
- and
- administering said reaction mixture at a site in need of augmentation before substantial collagen-polymer crosslinking occurs.
