Abstract
Relatively short chain alkyl aromatic compounds are prepared by alkylating or transalkylating an alkylatable aromatic compound with a relatively short chain alkylating or transalkylating agent under sufficient reaction conditions in the presence of catalyst comprising zeolite MCM-49.
Claims20
A process for preparing short chain alkyl aromatic compounds, said process comprising contacting at least one alkylatable aromatic compound with at least one alkylating or transalkylating agent possessing an alkylating aliphatic group having from 1 to 5 carbon atoms under sufficient reaction conditions and in the presence of a catalyst to provide an alkylated aromatic product possessing at least one alkyl group derived from said alkylating or transalkylating agent, said catalyst comprising synthetic porous crystalline MCM-49.
