Abstract
Process for obtaining sulfonated paraffins containing more than 50% of polysulfonates, by weight, by causing essentially linear C.sub.12 -C.sub.20 paraffins to react with SO.sub.2 and O.sub.2, at a temperature comprised within the range of from 55 to 100.degree. C. and in the presence of a peroxide belonging to the class of peroxy dicarbonates.
Claims8
A process for preparing a sulfonated paraffin comprising more than 50% by weight of polysulfonates, said process comprising contacting an essentially linear C.sub.12 -C.sub.20 paraffin or a mixture of essentially linear C.sub.12 -C.sub.20 paraffins with SO.sub.2 and O.sub.2, wherein said contacting is carried out at a temperature within the range of from 55.degree. to 100.degree. C. in the presence of a peroxy dicarbonate having the formula (I)
- --R--O--CO--O--O--CO--O--R' (I)
- wherein R and R', which may be the same or different, are alkyl or cycloalkyl radicals, with a ratio of SO.sub.2 :paraffin, by weight, being higher than 0.8.
