Abstract
A process for treating heavy oil by contacting the oil with hydrogen in a reactor containing an activated carbon catalyst having a specified range of Alpha value, and average pore diameter, and pore distribution, to reduce the content of nickel and vanadium in the feedstock and to achieve conversion of the carbon residue for producing a lighter oil.
Claims20
A process for hydrotreating a hydrocarbon oil feedstock, said process comprising hydrotreating said feedstock in the presence of a hydrotreating catalyst consisting essentially of an activated carbon, said activated carbon possessing a pore volume in the 100.ANG. to 400.ANG. pore diameter range of at least about 0.08 cc/g and an average pore diameter of from about 15.ANG. to about 54.ANG. .
