## Abstract

A release agent management system incorporated in an electrophotographic printing machine having a heat and pressure fuser assembly. The fuser assembly includes a heated fuser roll, a pressure roll and a wick for applying fuser oil to the surface of the heated fuser roll. The wick is moved into and out of engagement with the fuser roll and release agent material is supplied to the wick in accordance with the number of prints fused from which a print equivalency value is calculated. The print equivalency corresponds favorably to actual oil consumed. A predetermined print equivalency value is used for determining when oil is supplied to the wick and the predetermined value is varied depending on the volume of prints being made.

## Claims

### Claim 1

comparing said print equivalency values to a predetermined print equivalency value;
supplying release agent material to a wick structure for a predetermined period of time only after said predetermined equivalency value is exceeded by said print equivalency values; and
means for varying said predetermined number of print equivalences whereby the amount of release agent material supplied to said wick is varied in accordance with printer usage.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1 wherein said step of varying said predetermined number of print equivalences comprises decreasing said predetermined number of print equivalencies if the number of prints counted is above a first predetermined number.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The method according to claim 2 wherein said step of varying said predetermined number of print equivalences comprises increasing said predetermined number if the number of prints counted is less than said first predetermined number and greater than a second predetermined number.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The method according to claim 3 wherein said step of varying said predetermined number of print equivalences comprises maintaining said predetermined number the same if the number of prints counted is less than said second predetermined number.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method according to claim 1 wherein equivalency values are calculated according to the following formula:

The method according to claim 1 including the step of changing print equivalencies represented once said predetermined equivalency value is exceeded by said print equivalency values.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The method according to claim 6 wherein period of time is selected from one of two time periods for supplying of release agent material to said wick structure.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The method according to claim 7 wherein equivalency values are calculated according to the following formula:
if a calculated print equivalency value<=said predetermined print equivalency value, then the print equivalence=(said predetermined print equivalency value/said number of prints)+1
if a calculated print equivalency value>said predetermined print equivalency value, then the print equivalency=1.

### Claim 9 (depends on 2)

The method according to claim 2 wherein equivalency values are calculated according to the following formula:

### Claim 10 (depends on 3)

The method according to claim 3 wherein equivalency values are calculated according to the following formula:
if a calculated print equivalency value<=said predetermined print equivalency value, then the print equivalency=(said predetermined print equivalency value/said number of prints)+1
if a calculated print equivalency value>said predetermined print equivalency value, then the print equivalency=1.

### Claim 11 (depends on 4)

The method according to claim 4 wherein equivalency values are calculated according to the following formula:
if a calculated print equivalency value<=said predetermined print equivalency value, then the print equivalency=(said predetermined print equivalency value/said number of prints)+1
if a calculated print equivalency value>said predetermined print equivalency value, then the print equivalency=1.
