A process for preparing a resin composition for powder molding, said composition comprising 50 to 97 vol % of a metal or alloy powder and 50 to 3 vol % of a thermoplastic resin having heat resistance and crystallinity, said resin comprising a polycyanoarylether having a repeating unit represented by the formula:
- ##STR11## wherein Ar represents ##STR12## and a limiting viscosity (.eta.) in a solvent of p-chlorophenol at 60.degree. C. of at least 0.2 dl/g, which comprises dissolving the thermoplastic resin having heat resistance and crystallinity in N-methylpyrrolidone at a temperature of at least 190.degree. C. to form a solution and at the same time dispersing therein at least one metal or alloy powder selected from the group-consisting of iron, brass, nickel, silver, stainless steel and aluminum and having an average particle diameter of not more than 500 .mu.m to prepare a mixture of the powder and the solution and then volatilizing or evaporating the N-methylpyrrolidone thereby precipitating the resin onto the metal or alloy powder.
