## Abstract

A recording medium is provided with picture information in a tamper-resistant and high-resolution form. The picture information is broken down into a light/dark portion and a color portion. The light/dark portion needed for the visual impression is incorporated in the recording medium in a high-resolution form. The colored picture information is congruently superimposed on this portion so as to produce an integral ensemble. Protection from falsification is ensured by incorporating one of the portions of the picture information in the card structure in largely tamper-resistant fashion.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A multilayer recording medium comprising at least two layers including one layer inaccessible from the exterior of the medium, and combined picture information, said picture information being divided into at least two information parts which complement each other to form the combined picture information, at least one of said information parts comprising a colored picture carried by one of the layers, and wherein at least one of the information parts is provided in the layer that is inaccessible from the exterior of the medium.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The recording medium of claim 1, wherein the colored picture information part comprises migrating inks.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The recording medium of claim 1, wherein the other information part includes a gray-tone picture.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The recording medium of claim 3, wherein the gray-tone picture is a printed image.

### Claim 5 (depends on 3)

The recording medium of claim 3, wherein the recording medium includes a third layer in the form of a carrier layer, and the gray-tone picture is applied to the carrier layer.

### Claim 6 (depends on 3)

The recording medium of claim 3, wherein the gray-tone picture constitutes a black and white positive of the combined picture information.

### Claim 7 (depends on 3)

The recording medium of claim 3, wherein the gray-tone picture constitutes a black and white positive of a color separation of the combined picture information.

### Claim 8 (depends on 3)

The recording medium of claim 3, wherein the colored picture information part of the combined picture information has a lower spatial resolution than the gray-tone picture.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The recording medium of claim 1, wherein one of said layers is a transparent film layer in which the first part of the picture information exists in an irreversible form, and the second part of the picture information is disposed congruently to this first part in the other layer so that the two picture information parts are superimposed to form the combined picture information.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The recording medium of claim 9, wherein the information part that does not comprise the colored picture comprises a black and white picture.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The recording medium of claim 10, wherein said first part of the picture information comprises the black and white information part, and wherein the black and white information part is burned into the transparent film layer in the form of a gray-tone picture by means of laser energy.

### Claim 12 (depends on 9)

The recording medium of claim 9, wherein said other layer is a separate ink-receiving color layer disposed adjacent the transparent film layer, said colored picture information part disposed in said color layer.

### Claim 13 (depends on 9)

The recording medium of claim 9, wherein the recording medium includes a third layer in the form of a carrier layer, and the transparent film layer is applied as a cover film on the carrier layer.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The recording medium of claim 13, wherein the carrier layer has a background pattern that harmonizes with the combined picture information.

### Claim 15 (depends on 9)

The recording medium of claim 9, wherein the transparent film layer is made of hard PVC.
