Method for recycling glass

A process comprising:

• subjecting a feed stock of waste materials comprised of articles and portions thereof made of glass and nonglass components, articles and portions thereof made of glass, glass shards and combinations thereof to vibrations in a vibrating apparatus at a frequency, impact force and for a period of time effective for breaking glass components into pieces of glass of a first size range and for liberating said glass components from said nonglass components, at least some of said glass being coated;
• separating any nonglass components present in the feed stock from said pieces of glass;
• and
• following said separating step, removing the coatings from said pieces of glass.

A process comprising:

• subjecting a feed stock of waste materials comprised of articles and portions thereof made of glass and nonglass components, articles and portions thereof made of glass, glass shards and combinations thereof to vibrations in a vibrating apparatus at a frequency, impact force and for a period of time effective for breaking said glass components into pieces of glass of a first size range and for liberating said glass components from said nonglass components, portions of said glass in said feed stock being held to other portions of said glass by a lead frit;
• separating any nonglass components present in the feed stock from said pieces of glass;
• and
• following said separating step, exposing at least said portions of said pieces of glass held together by said frit to a solution of nitric acid having a concentration of about 12% for a period of time sufficient to remove major amounts of said frit, and agitating said solution during said period of exposure time.

A process comprising:

• subjecting a feed stock of waste materials comprised of articles and portions thereof made of glass and nonglass components, articles and portions thereof made of glass, glass shards and combinations thereof to vibrations in a vibrating apparatus at a frequency, impact force and for a period of time effective for breaking said glass components into pieces of glass of a first size range and for liberating said glass components from said nonglass components;
• separating any nonglass components present in the feed stock from said pieces of glass;
• and
• following said separating step, crushing said pieces of waste glass at a rate and for a period of time for effective further breaking said glass into pieces of a second size range smaller than the pieces of said first size range.
