## Abstract

Head indicia to indicate tool type which is integrally formed on the handle portion of the tool. The indicia is a symbol which emulates the configuration of the tool head and which indicates the orientation of the tool head. The indicia can be recessed into or raised from the surface of the handle to provide tactile identity of the configuration and orientation of the tool head. The indicia provides the user with an efficient way to select the correct tool and tool head type from a group of tools or from a set of tools held in a tool belt or pouch.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A combination tool and tool head indicia, the combination comprising:
a tool having an upper end and a lower end, and a vertical axis through said upper end and said lower end;
said tool having a handle portion located along said upper end of said tool, said handle being centered along said vertical axis;
a butt portion presenting a face on said handle portion substantially perpendicular to said vertical axis of said tool;
a tool head located along said lower end of said tool opposite said handle portion, said tool head being centered along said vertical axis of said tool; and
a symbol integrally formed on said butt portion that emulates the exact configuration of said tool head, said symbol being recessed into said butt portion of said tool so that said tool head may be identified when hung from the user's belt.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The combination tool and tool head indicia as described in claim 1 wherein said handle portion includes a gripping surface having grooves to facilitate gripping the tool.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The combination tool and tool head indicia as described in claim 1 wherein said symbol is marked to distinguish said symbol from said handle portion of said tool.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The combination tool and tool head indicia as described in claim 1 wherein said symbol is arranged onto said butt portion such that said symbol provides a manifestation of the true orientation of said tool head along said vertical axis.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The combination tool and tool head indicia as described in claim 1 wherein said symbol is configured and arranged on said butt portion such that said symbol substantially indicates the orientation of said tool head with respect to said handle portion.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The combination tool and tool head indicia as described in claim 1 wherein said symbol is dimensioned to simultaneously provide the user with the approximate dimensions of said tool head.

### Claim 7

A combination tool and tool head indicia, the combination comprising:
a handle having a grasping end and a tool head receiving end, said grasping end having a butt portion;
a tool head projecting from said tool head receiving end, said tool head configured for engaging a fastener;
a symbol formed on said grasping end of said handle, said symbol emulating the exact configuration of said tool head; and
said symbol being dimensioned to simultaneously provide the user with the approximate dimensions of said tool head.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The combination tool and tool head indicia as described in claim 7 wherein said symbol emulates a tool type selected from the group consisting of: flathead, phillips, clutch, hex, Pozidriv.RTM. Reed & Prince, square or

### Claim 9 (depends on 7)

The combination tool and tool head indicia as described in claim 7 wherein said symbol is recessed into said butt portion of said tool.

### Claim 10 (depends on 7)

The combination tool and tool head indicia as described in claim 7 wherein said symbol is raised above the surface of said butt portion of said tool.

### Claim 11 (depends on 7)

The combination tool and tool head indicia as described in claim 7 wherein said symbol is marked to distinguish said symbol from said handle portion of said tool.

### Claim 12

A combination tool and tool head indicia, the combination comprising:
a handle having a grasping end and a tool head receiving end, said grasping end having a butt portion;
a tool head projecting from said tool head receiving end, said tool head configured for engaging a fastener;
a symbol integrally formed on said butt portion of said handle, said symbol being dimensioned to substantially match the dimensions and configuration of said tool head; and
said symbol being configured and arranged on said handle such that said symbol substantially indicates the orientation of said tool head.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The combination tool and tool head indicia as described in claim 12 wherein said symbol is recessed into said butt portion of said tool.

### Claim 14 (depends on 12)

The combination tool and tool head indicia as described in claim 12 wherein said symbol is raised above the surface of said butt portion of said tool.

### Claim 15 (depends on 12)

The combination tool and tool head indicia as described in claim 12 wherein said symbol is marked to distinguish said symbol from said handle portion of said tool.
