Abstract
This invention relates to a method and composition for the incorporation of gypsum as a filler material in aqueous polymer dispersions by means of the addition of a detergent selected from the group consisting of ammonium lauryl sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate, ammonium laureth sulfate, and sodium laureth sulfate.
Claims35
A composition which allows for calcium sulfate dihydrate to be maintained in an aqueous solution comprising calcium sulfate dihydrate, water, and a detergent blend, said detergent blend being selected in part from the group consisting of lauryl sulfate and laureth sulfate.
A composition for the incorporation of calcium sulfate dihydrate as a filler material in latex, comprising calcium sulfate dihydrate, latex, and a detergent blend, said detergent blend selected in part from the group consisting of lauryl sulfate and laureth sulfates.
A method for the incorporation of calcium sulfate dihydrate as a filler material in latex, comprising the steps of:
- preparing a concentrated latex solution;
- adding to water a detergent blend selected in part from the group consisting of lauryl sulfate and laureth sulfates, to be used to dilute said concentrated latex solution;
- adding said dilution water to said concentrated latex solution, thereby diluting said concentrated latex solution;
- adding calcium sulfate dihydrate to said diluted latex solution while agitating said latex solution;
- and,
- mixing said filled latex solution.
