Abstract
A process for the production of 2,3-dihydro-2,2-dimethyl-7-benzofuranyl chloroformate which comprises treating 2,3-dihydro-2,2-dimethyl-7-benzofuranol and phosgene in a water immiscible organic medium with aqueous base and removing aqueous phase from the organic phase during the process.

An improved process for the production of 2,3-dihydro-2,2-dimethyl-7-benzofuranyl chloroformate which comprises treating, in a reaction zone, a mixture of 2,3-dihydro-2,2-dimethyl-7-benzofuranol and phosgene in a water immiscible organic medium with aqueous base forming an organic phase and an aqueous phase, and removing aqueous phase from the organic phase during the process.
