Abstract
A composite refractory material composition comprises a boron carbide matrix and minor constituents of yttrium-boron-oxygen-carbon phases uniformly distributed throughout the boron carbide matrix.

A composite refractory material comprising a boron carbide matrix and secondary phase uniformly distributed throughout said boron carbide matrix, said secondary phase consisting of a first element and at least one of boron, oxygen, and carbon, said first element being yttrium, said refractory material comprises about 9.4 wt. % of said first element.
