Abstract
A scroll-type refrigerant compressor for use in a conventional refrigerating circuit and having liquid refrigerant compressor cooling provided by the injection of liquid refrigerant into an intermediate biasing chamber and/or specifically located bleed holes.
Claims39
A scroll-type refrigerant compressor for use in a conventional refrigerating circuit and having liquid refrigerant compressor cooling, comprising:
- (a) first and second scroll members each having an end plate on one face of which is disposed a scroll wrap, said scroll members being mounted so that said wraps are intermeshing with respect to one another so that when one of said scroll members is moved in an orbital path with respect to the other of said scroll members, said wraps define moving fluid compression chambers which progress from a relatively large size at suction pressure to a relatively small size at discharge pressure;
- (b) a fluid biasing chamber disposed in sealing relationship with the opposite face of one of said end plates;
- (c) first passage means through said one end plate for placing said biasing chamber in fluid communication with the fluid in one of said compression chambers at a point therein where the fluid being compressed is at a pressure intermediate said suction and discharge pressures, whereby said fluid at said intermediate pressure acts to bias the one scroll member having said one end plate against the other scroll member to enhance sealing therebetween;
- and
- (d) a second passage means for placing said biasing chamber in fluid communication with liquid refrigerant in said circuit when said compressor requires cooling.
A scroll-type refrigerant compressor for use in a conventional refrigerating circuit, the refrigerating circuit including a condenser, an evaporator, and conduit means connecting said compressor, condenser and evaporator in a closed loop series relationship, said scroll-type refrigerant compressor comprising:
- (a) an outer shell including means defining a discharge chamber therein;
- (b) first and second scroll members disposed within said outer shell each having an end plate on one face of which is disposed a scroll wrap, said scroll members being mounted so that said wraps are intermeshing with respect to one another so that when one of said scroll members is moved in an orbital path with respect to the other of said scroll members, said scroll members define moving fluid compression chambers which progress from a relatively large size at suction pressure to a relatively small size at discharge pressure;
- (c) a fluid biasing chamber disposed in sealing relationship with the opposite face of one of said end plates;
- (d) a bleed hole through said one end plate to place said biasing chamber in fluid communication with the fluid in one of said compression chambers at a point therein where the fluid being compressed is at a pressure intermediate said suction and discharge pressures, whereby said fluid at said intermediate pressure acts to bias the one scroll member having said one end plate against the other scroll member to enhance sealing therebetween;
- and
- (e) insulated passage means disposed within said discharge chamber and fixed to said outer shell for placing said biasing chamber in fluid communication with liquid refrigerant in said circuit when said compressor requires cooling while preventing said liquid refrigerant from being excessively heated by the surrounding environment of said compressor.
A scroll-type refrigerant compressor for use in a conventional refrigerating circuit and having liquid refrigerant compressor cooling, comprising:
- (a) first and second scroll members each having an end plate on one face of which is disposed a scroll wrap, said scroll members being mounted so that said wraps are intermeshing with respect to one another so that when one of said scroll members is moved in an orbital path with respect to the other of said scroll members, said wraps define moving fluid compression chambers which progress from a relatively large size at suction pressure to a relatively small size at discharge pressure, said other scroll member being further mounted for limited axial displacement;
- and
- (b) passage means for placing an intermediate compression chamber of said compressor in fluid communication with liquid refrigerant in said circuit when said compressor requires cooling, said passage means comprising a biasing chamber and a pair of bleed holes formed through the end plate of one of said scroll members, said pair of bleed holes being located symmetrically, that is on parallel lines which are tangent to the generating circle of said scroll wrap.
