Abstract
A process is provided for separating alkyl carbonate from a feedstock comprising at least one alkyl carbonate and at least 0.01 percent by weight water comprising extracting the alkyl carbonate from the feedstock in a liquid-liquid extraction step comprising an extraction solvent selective for extracting alkyl carbonates relative to water in an amount sufficient to extract a substantial amount of the alkyl carbonates from the feedstock. The extraction solvent substantially comprises hydrocarbon boiling at a temperature ranging from about 50.degree. F. to about 700.degree. F. at atmospheric pressure and having a specific gravity ranging from about 0.50 to about 1.00.

A process for separating alkyl carbonate from a feedstock comprising at least one alkyl carbonate and at least 0.01 percent by weight water comprising extracting said alkyl carbonate from said feedstock in a liquid-liquid extraction step comprising an extraction solvent selective for extracting alkyl carbonates relative to water in an amount sufficient to extract a substantial amount of said alkyl carbonates from said feedstock, said extraction solvent substantially comprising hydrocarbon boiling at a temperature ranging from about 50.degree. F. to about 700.degree. F. at atmospheric pressure and having a specific gravity ranging from about 0.50 to about 1.00.
A process for separating alkyl carbonate from a feedstock comprising at least one alkyl carbonate, at least one alkanol, and at least 0.10 percent by weight water comprising:
- fractionating by distillation said feedstock into an overhead product comprising a substantial fraction of alkanol and alkyl carbonate and a bottoms product comprising alkyl carbonate and water;
- and
- extracting alkyl carbonate from said bottoms product comprising alkyl carbonate and water in a liquid-liquid extraction step comprising an extraction solvent selective for extracting alkyl carbonate relative to water in an amount sufficient to extract a substantial amount of said alkyl carbonate from said feedstock, said extraction solvent comprising substantially hydrocarbon boiling at a temperature ranging from about 50.degree. F. to about 700.degree. F. at atmospheric pressure and having a specific gravity ranging from about 0.60 to about 1.00.
A process for separating alkyl carbonate from a feedstock comprising at least one alkyl carbonate, at least one alkanol, and at least 0.10 percent by weight water comprising:
- fractionating said feedstock by distillation extraction into an overhead product comprising alkyl carbonate and water and a bottoms product comprising a substantial fraction of alkanol and water utilizing an extractive distillation solvent selective for extracting alkanol relative to alkyl carbonate comprising water in an amount sufficient to separate a substantial fraction of said alkanol from said feedstock;
- and
- extracting alkyl carbonate from said overhead product comprising alkyl carbonate and water in a liquid-liquid extraction step comprising an extraction solvent selective for extracting alkyl carbonate relative to water in an amount sufficient to extract a substantial amount of said alkyl carbonate from said feedstock, said extraction solvent comprising substantially hydrocarbon boiling at a temperature ranging from about 50.degree. F. to about 700.degree. F. at atmospheric pressure and having a specific gravity ranging from about 0.60 to about 1.00.
