10'-Desmethoxystreptonigrin, obtainable by cultivation of a strain of Streptomyces albus, A.T.C.C. No. 55161, and salts, esters and amides thereof. The novel compounds have antitumor and antibiotic activity.

A strain of Streptomyces albus which has all of the identifying characteristics of the strain designated by A.T.C.C. No. 55161, which is biologically pure, and which is capable of producing the compound 5'-amino-6'-(7-amino-5,8-dihydro-6-methoxy-5,8-dioxo-2-quinolyl)-4'-(8'-hy droxy-9'-methoxyphenyl)-3'-methyl-2'-pyridinecarboxylic acid.
