An optical scanning apparatus of the present invention is for optically scanning a medium. In the optical scanning apparatus, a light source receives image information and emits light beam modulated in accordance with the image information. A single optically imaging system is positioned in a single location for receiving the light beam from the light source and for focusing the light beam to be focused on the medium. A reflective mirror formed with a single reflective surface is provided for reflecting the light beam from the optically imaging system to direct the light beam to the medium. The reflective mirror is rotated by a motor at a fixed speed to allow the reflective surface to scan the light beam on the medium in a scanning sweep. Surfaces other than the reflective surface of the reflective mirror is prevented from directing the light beam to be focused on the medium.
