Claims32
A contraceptive composition comprising as active ingredients a mixture of a) a betaine selected from the group consisting of N-alkyl-betaines, N-alkyl-sulfobetaines, N-acylbetaines, and a mixture of two or more said betaines and b) an amine oxide selected from the group consisting of alkyl-N,N-dimethylamine oxides, alkyl-N,N-dihydroxyethylamine oxides, acylamide t-amine oxides and a mixture of two or more said amine oxides and a carrier in the form of a sponge, condom, vaginal insert, contraceptive film, suppository or sustained release device.
A contraceptive composition comprising as active ingredients a mixture of N-alkyl-di (lower alkyl) betaines and alkyl N,N-di (lower alkyl) amine oxides, wherein the lower alkyl is C.sub.1-3 and said betaine and said amine oxide are present in molar ratio of from 1:5 to 5:1.
A douche comprising a mixture of a) a betaine selected from the group consisting of N-alkyl-betaines, N-alkylsulfobetaines, N-acyl-betaines and a mixture of two or more said betaines and b) an amine oxide selected from the group consisting of alkyl-N,N-dimethylamine oxides, alkyl-N,N-dihydroxyethylamine oxides, acylamide t-dimethylamine oxides, and a mixture of two or more amine oxides thereof and wherein said betaine and said amine oxide are in a molar in ratio of from 1:5 to 5:1.
A method for inhibiting the activity of sperm comprising applying to a locus where sperm are present or will come in contact with sperm a spermicidally effective amount of a composition comprising a mixture of a) a betaine selected from the group consisting of N-alkyl-betaines, N-alkyl-sulfobetaines, N-acyl-betaines and a mixture of two or more said betaines and b) an amine oxide selected from the group consisting of alkyl-N,N-dimethylamine oxides, alkyl-N,N-dihydroxyethylamine oxides, acylamide t-amine oxides and a mixture of two or more of said amine oxides.
A method for inhibiting the activity of sperm comprising applying to a locus where sperm are present or will come in contact with sperm a spermicidally effective amount of a composition comprising an N-alkyl-di (lower alkyl) betaine and an alkyl N,N-di (lower alkyl) amine oxide where the lower alkyl is C.sub.1-3 and where said betaine and said amine oxide are present in a molar ratio of from 1:5 to 5:1.
