Abstract
Soluble salt-free, contaminant-free antioxidant pigments which are cyanamide derivatives of metals, are provided in combination with organic resin polymers, as protective mirror backing coatings.
Claims9
A coating composition useful as a durable and long term protective coating for thin metal films which comprises the combination of:
- (a) an organic resin polymer selected from the group consisting of alkyd resins, acrylic resins, acrylic modified alkyd resins, polyurethane oils, vinyl halide polymers, vinyl halide copolymers, non-oil based urethane, and phenol-formaldehyde resins contained in aqueous or non-aqueous medium;
- and
- (b) an anti-corrosion amount of a substantially soluble salt-free antioxidant scavenger pigment comprising a cyanamide compound of a metal, said cyanamide compound of said metal containing no more than about 0.5% by weight of said soluble salts and wherein said metal is selected from the group consisting of zinc, nickel, cobalt, lead, mixtures thereof, and blends.
A coating composition useful as a durable and long term protective coating for thin metal films, which comprises the combination of:
- (a) an organic resin polymer selected from the group consisting of alkyd resins, acrylic resins, acrylic modified alkyd resins, polyurethane oils, vinyl halide polymers, vinyl halide copolymers, non-oil based urethane, and phenol-formaldehyde resins;
- (b) a solvent;
- and
- (c) an anti-corrosion amount of a substantially soluble salt-free antioxidant scavenger pigment comprising a cyanamide compound of a metal, said cyanamide compound of said metal containing no more than about 0.5% by eight of said soluble salts and said cyanamide being complexed with at least two metal equivalents and wherein said metal is selected from the group consisting of zinc, nickel, cobalt, lead, mixtures thereof an blends.

- and
