Abstract
A process for producing vitamin A acid, having useful biological activity, which comprises oxidizing vitamin A aldehyde with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal chlorite in the presence of an acid.

A process for producing vitamin A acid which comprises oxidizing vitamin A aldehyde by gradually dropwise adding an acid to a mixture comprising vitamin A aldehyde, an aqueous solution of an alkali metal chlorite and a lower unsaturated compound having at least one double bond and at least 3 carbon atoms.
