Abstract
Disclosed are arylazo chromoionophores characterized by the formula: ##STR1## wherein X is hydrogen or a monovalent cation, Y is H or methoxy and R is a ringed aromatic organic structure which affects the optical absorption properties of the compounds. Also disclosed is a method for the detection of calcium ion using these compounds.
Claims17
An arylazo chromoionophore characterized by the formula:
- ##STR67## wherein X is hydrogen or a monovalent cation, Y is H or methoxy and R is a ringed aromatic organic structure which completes the structure of the azo dye.
A method for the detection of calcium ion in aqueous liquid suspected of containing such ion which method comprises contacting the liquid with a compound of the formula:
- ##STR68## wherein X is hydrogen or a monovalent cation, Y is H or methoxy and R is a ringed aromatic organic structure and determining the optical density change in the liquid resulting from the complexation of calcium ion with said compound.
