Abstract
Melt strengths and melt viscosities of aromatic polyesters are increased substantially by the addition of small amounts of certain high molecular weight vinyl aromatic modifiers which disperse very readily in aromatic polyesters.
Claims7
A blend comprising:
- (a) an aromatic polyester or copolyester;
- and
- (b) a copolymer comprising:
- (1) about 60 to about 99 percent by weight derived from a vinyl aromatic monomer:
- (2) about 1.0 to about 40 percent by weight derived from a hydroxy alkyl (meth)acrylate or epoxy alkyl (meth)acrylate;
- and (3) 0 to about 25 percent by weight derived from an alkyl (meth)acrylate;
- wherein the copolymer has a molecular weight of about 1.0 million to about 4.0 million;
- at a weight ratio of (a) to (b) of about 99/1 to about 70/30.
