Abstract

A p-phenylenediamine series color developing agent or a precursor thereof having a substituent A at the ortho-position; Substituent A: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group and X represents --O--R.sup.7 or ##STR2## wherein R.sup.7 represents an alkyl group, an aryl group, or a heterocyclic ring and R.sup.8 and and R.sup.9, which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, or a heterocyclic ring, R.sup.8 and R.sup.9 may combine with each other to form a heterocyclic ring, and a process for forming an image which comprises imagewise exposing a silver halide color photographic material and thereafter color developing the color photographic material in the presence of a p-phenylenediamine series color developing agent or a precursor thereof having the aforesaid substituent A.

Dependent claims

A color developing composition comprising a p-phenylenediamine series color developing agent or a precursor thereof represented by formula (I):

##STR38## wherein R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group and x represents --O--R.sup.7 or ##STR39## wherein R.sup.7 represents an alkyl group, an aryl group, or a heterocyclic ring and R.sup.8 and R.sup.9, which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, or a heterocyclic ring, R.sup.8 and R.sup.9 may combine with each other to form a heterocyclic ring,
R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4, which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an amino group, a hydtoxy group, an alkoxy group, an acylamino group, a sulfonamide group, an alkoxycarbonylamino group, an aminocarbonylamino group, a sulfonyl group, a carbamoyl group, a sulfamoyl group, a cyano group, a halogen atom, an alkoxycarbonyl group, an acyl group, an acyloxy group, a sulfo group, or a carboxy group;
R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 each represents an alkyl group, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6, R.sup.3 and R.sup.6, and/or R.sup.2 and R.sup.5 may combine with each other to form a ring structure, and R.sup.2 and X may combine with each other to form a heterocyclic ring;
Y represents ##STR40## or --N.dbd.Y.sup.2, wherein Y.sup.1 represents --SO.sub.3 H, --SO.sub.3 Na, --SO.sub.2 R.sup.11, ##STR41## wherein R.sup.10 and R.sup.11 each represents an alkyl group or an aryl group which may be substituted, and Ar.sup.1 represents an aryl group which may be substituted and Y.sup.2 represents ##STR42## wherein Ar.sup.2 represents an aryl group which may be substituted.
