Abstract
A method of producing heavy metal carbides of high specific surface area characterized in that a compound in the gazeous state of said heavy metal is caused to react with reactive carbon having a specific surface area at least equal to 200 m.sup.2. g.sup.-1 at a temperature comprised between 900.degree. and 1400.degree. C., and thus obtained carbides.
Claims17
A method of producing a heavy metal carbide of high specific surface area, comprising reacting a gas consisting essentially of a compound of said heavy metal in a gaseous state with reactive carbon in the form of a solid consisting essentially of elemental carbon having a specific surface area at least equal to 200 m.sup.2 /g at a temperature between 900.degree. to 1400.degree. C.
A method of producing a heavy metal carbide of high specific surface area, comprising reacting a compound of said heavy metal in a gaseous state and reactive carbon doped with a metallic element which is Ce, Ti, U, Zr, or a lanthanide, the reactive carbon having a specific surface area at least equal to 200 m.sup.2 /g, the reaction taking place at a temperature between 900.degree. and 1400.degree. C.
