Method for sealing and priming prepared substrates for roadways

A method for priming an exposed surface of a graded and compacted roadway base course to receive a layer of asphaltic roadway material comprising the application to said exposed surface of said base course an amount of an emulsion effective to flux said prepared base course and said layer of asphaltic roadway material;

• said emulsion consisting essentially of a first phase of an asphalt and a resinous petroleum oil, a second phase of water, and at least one surfactant the ratio of said first phase to said second phase in said emulsion is about 1:1.8 to about 1:11.

An emulsion effective to prime an exposed surface of a graded and compacted roadway base course to receive a layer of asphaltic roadway material;

• said emulsion consisting essentially of a first phase of an asphalt and a resinous petroleum oil, a second phase of water, and at least one surfactant and at least one stabilizer;
• the ratio of said first phase to said second phase in said emulsion is about 1:1.8 to about 1:11.

An emulsion effective to retain moisture within a mechanically or chemically stabilized granular or particulate substrate;

• said emulsion consisting essentially of a first phase of an asphalt and a resinous petroleum oil, a second phase of water, and at least one emulsifier;
• the ratio of said first phase to said second phase in said emulsion being about 1:1.8 to 1:11, and said asphalt having a viscosity at 60 degrees centigrade of from about 400 poise to about 4800 poise.

A method for sealing an exposed surface of a compacted, moisture containing, granular or particulate substrate comprising the application to said exposed surface of said substrate an amount of an emulsion effective to retain said moisture within said substrate;

• said emulsion consisting essentially of a first phase of an asphalt and a resinous petroleum oil, a second phase of water, and an emulsifier;
• the ratio of said first phase to said second phase being from about 1:1.8 to about 1:11;
• and said asphalt comprising about 2% to about 30% of the total weight of the emulsion.

A method for priming an exposed surface of a substrate comprising soil, clay, sand, shell, fly ash, cement, limestone or mixtures thereof, said method comprising the application to said exposed surface of said substrate an amount of an emulsion effective to retain moisture within said substrate;

• said emulsion comprising a first phase of an asphalt and a resinous petroleum oil, and a second phase of water, and an emulsifier;
• the ratio of said first phase to said second phase being from about 1:1.8 to about 1:11;
• and said asphalt having a viscosity at 60 degrees Centigrade of from about 400 poise to about 4800 poise and comprising from 3% to 60% of said first phase.
