Abstract
A thiol methacrylate or acrylate compound represented by the formula (1) or(2); ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is H or CH.sub.3 and X is selected from: ##STR2## wherein R.sup.1 is H or CH.sub.3 and m is an integer of 1 to 4. The thiol methacrylate or acrylate compound gives a resin having a high refractive index, a large Abbe number, and a good hardness and heat resistance, and giving little or no smell at processing.

A thiol methacrylate or acrylate resin obtained by polymerizing a thiol methacrylate or acrylate compound represented by the following formula (1):
- ##STR32## wherein R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and X represents ##STR33## wherein m is an integer of from 1 to 4, or a monomer mixture comprising at least 10% by weight of the thiol methacrylate or acrylate compound of the formula (1).
A thiol methacrylate or acrylate resin obtained by polymerizing a thiol methacrylate or acrylate compound represented by the following formula (1):
- ##STR34## wherein R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group and X represents a divalent group selected from the group consisting of:
- ##STR35## wherein R.sup.1 is the same as defined above, or a monomer mixture comprising at least 10% by weight of the thiol methacrylate or acrylate compound of the formula (1).
