Abstract
The impurity content, e.g. propionitrile, in a fraction containing C.sub.5 or C.sub.6 tertiary olefins obtained by cracking hydrocarbons is reduced by distilling with an alkanol and removing the impurity as a higher boiling point fraction.
Claims16
A process for reducing the content of an impurity in a fraction containing C.sub.5 or C.sub.6 tertiary olefins obtained by distillation of a cracked product, said process comprising the steps of feeding an alkanol selected from the group consisting of ethanol, methanol, and mixtures thereof to the distillation of the cracked product and recovering the impurity as a fraction with a higher boiling point than the fraction containing the C.sub.5 or C.sub.6 tertiary olefins.
