Abstract
A new microorganism, Streptomyces avermitilis subspecies niger NRRL 21005, and processes using the microorganism for producing known avermectins are provided.

A biologically pure culture of the microorganism Streptomyces avermitilis subspecies niger NRRL 21005, or an avermectin-producing mutant thereof.
A process for producing at least one avermectin compound which comprises cultivating Streptomyces avermitilis subspecies niger NRRL 21005, or an avermectin-producing mutant thereof, in an aqueous culture medium containing sources of assimilable carbon, nitrogen and inorganic salts under submerged aerobic conditions until at least one avermectin compound is produced, and recovering said avermectin.
